August 2002
I was a Computer Science Lecturer
for Degree and PG Students, at S Ch College in Maddirala.
……
In those days, Educational Academic
Year was year-wise system. College
reopens in mid of the June, for the specific Academic Year. As per our College Principal instructions,
there were only theoretical classes up to July month. Lab work starts from August month. Principal had proposed this method for the
convenient of the Students; to make them understand the basic fundamentals of
the Subject at initial stage, before going for Lab work; i.e., around 30%
syllabus might be completed, before Lab work starts. So that, Students get an idea of the Subject, during
their Lab work.
I conduct Slip-Tests (i.e., Simple
Assignments/Tests/Exams) for my Class-Students, weekly/biweekly at least
once. For these Tests, I ask my Students
to write a Test, by preparing a (simple) Topic each time. During Test-Paper evaluation, I provide my suggestions
for each Student, at end of their Test-Paper.
In the Computer Lab, Lecturer Table stays at center. So, I give (evaluated) Test-Papers to
Students in the Lab, by giving my suggestions individually and personally. In this way, they can learn the Subject,
Topic-wise, slowly and perfectly; meanwhile, they can make corrections to their
notebook if any; and also, they can get clarifications for their doubts. Simultaneously, they get the knowledge of
understanding the Subject practically, in the Lab. So, they need not by heart the Subject. At last, their final exam preparation becomes
very easy, with their both theoretical and practical knowledge. With this approach, I have observed a great
improvement in Students’ Results.
……
Generally, in each class, there will
be many Students with the name Shreenivas/Shreenu. Some of the Students were called with their
initials (i.e., Shreenu B, Shreenu K, Shreenu Y, etc.) or a special
nickname.
In BCA Final Year Class, Shreenivas
B was called as a Rowdy-Shreenu. A
Lecturer questioned the Students as “Shreenivas B is very calm person. But, why you (all) added a nickname as Rowdy,
for him ?”. Then, they answered to that
Lecturer as “Sir, … … He might be a calm
person by nature, but he looks like a Rowdy by physique. Moreover, he treats the nickname as an honor;
and says that this nickname was given by his fans.”. Then, all Lecturers were laughed a lot, by
listening to their answer.
……
One day in the Lab, while giving (evaluated)
Test-Papers to the Students, I called Mr. Shreenu, and said “You always come to
the Class in time; and have the perfect attendance. You are very silent and obedient
Student. You write all exams without
absent, irrespective of the Result (Pass or Fail) or marks. In the exams, you attempt all (required)
questions with answers. Totally, you are
well disciplined Student.”.
Mr. Shreenu said “Thank you,
Sir…!”.
I said “Then, why are you getting very poor
marks in exams ? Do you know the reason
?”.
Mr. Shreenu said “I know, Sir…! My handwriting is very poor.”.
I said “Good. You know the reason. Your handwriting looks like Jilebi
handwriting; only rounds are appearing as similar as in Jilebi.”, with a smile.
Mr. Shreenu was also smiled.
I said “Do you know ? … … When the Student is well disciplined but poor in Results; then that Student’s Lecturer is also responsible along with that Student. … … So, I am feeling guilt about your Results.”.
Mr. Shreenu was silent.
I said “Do you have any plans for
the improvement of your handwriting ?”.
Mr. Shreenu said “I don’t know,
Sir…!”.
I said “After thinking a lot of
time, for the improvement of your handwriting; I got a solution, i.e., Cursive Handwriting
Worksheets Assignment. Will you do that
?”.
Mr. Shreenu said “I do as my level
best. …
… Sir…! Please tell me.”.
I said “But, you are not supposed to
be shy to start and shame to practice… this Assignment. Because, it is (your) childhood days’ Assignment.”
Mr. Shreenu said “Not an issue. I will follow your suggestions. …
… Sir…!”.
I said “Good. First, you need to buy a Cursive Handwriting Worksheets (4th Grade) Book, that is suitable for you.”.
[ In our childhood days, 1st Grade is for CAPITAL Alphabet letters. 2nd Grade is for small Alphabet letters. 3rd Grade is for Italic Alphabet letters. 4th Grade is for general Handwriting. ]
Mr. Shreenu said “I will buy that
book. …
… Sir…!”.
I said “For this Assignment, you
need to learn like a Student, and evaluate (yourself) like a Master. Because, a graduated person is eligible to
teach … … up to 10th Class Students.”, with a smile.
Mr. Shreenu too smiled.
I said “After buying the Book, you
practice only two pages, daily. Because,
handwriting is similar to Artistic work.
You may learn slowly but perfectly.
That makes uniqueness in your signature.
After practicing first page, you
evaluate that page by yourself. Later,
practice the second page, and then evaluate it.
You practice this Assignment daily once, even though you are in vacations.
For every week, you write a paragraph
(from newspaper/magazines/textbooks) on a paper, and ask your friend to
read it. If your friend is able to
understand your writing, then there is an improvement in your (handwriting)
practice.
I am not going to ask you, any
questions related to this Assignment progress, later. But, I can observe your (handwriting)
progress in your later exams. The
progress completely depends on your practice.”.
Mr. Shreenu said “Yes, … Sir…! Thank you very much for your suggestions.”.
Thus, my suggestions were completed
for Mr. Shreenu. After giving
Test-Papers to all the Students, I became busy in the Lab with Students.
……
October 2002
One day, Mr. Krishna got fever. He requested Mr. Shreenu to join with him, to
go to the Hospital.
Both went to the Hospital, at nearby Town Chilakaluripet (pronunciation Chilakalooripeata చిలకలూరిపేట).
Doctor wrote the prescription, after
examined the patient Mr. Krishna.
Both came outside of the Doctor
room. By seeing the prescription paper,
Mr. Shreenu said “Oh. Doctor handwriting
is also poor. Can we suggest the Doctor,
about our Master’s advice ?”. Mr.
Krishna said “No. Keep quite. Let’s move to Medical Shop.”.
After taking Medicines, Mr. Krishna
said “Can we go back to our College Hostel ?”.
Mr. Shreenu said “Hello
patient. Be patience. Let us meet the Doctor, with Medicines.
Our Lecturer said that… Learn like a Student; and evaluate like a
Master.”.
After seeing them with Medicines,
Doctor said “You brought Medicines…! Very
good.”.
After verification, Doctor called
the Medical Shop person; and asked him “Why… … you have changed the Medicine
?”.
Medical Shop person said “the
specified Medicine is not available. So,
I have given the Medicine similar to that.”.
Doctor got angry with him, and said
“You are not supposed to change the Medicine.
If the specified Medicine is not available, you need to inform me.”.
Doctor has changed the prescription,
after enquiring with the Medical Shop person.
After getting verified the Medicine with Doctor, both came outside of the Doctor room.
By looking towards Mr. Krishna, Mr. Shreenu said "I hope that you understand very well, about the concept of our Lecturer's suggestion; … now ?".
Mr. Krishna said "Perfectly". Then, both went back to the College Hostel.
With in few days, Mr. Krishna became
healthier.
……
November 2002
Lab (Post-Lunch schedule) was about to
start. BCA Final Year Students were
coming to Lab. At the same time, other (than
BCA Final Year) Students were also coming to Lab, to get sign-off for their (Lab)
Records.
At that time, BCA Final Year Student
Mr. Krishna came to me, and said “Sir,… …
You have given a handwriting Assignment to Rowdy-Shreenu. He is doing it very perfectly. In the Hostel, if anyone found with poor
handwriting, he is calling it as Jilebi handwriting, and also telling about
your advice. He became popular in the
Hostel.”. Mr. Shreenu was also there.
I said “Oh. Very good.
Mr. Shreenu became a brand ambassador for handwriting, now.”.
Then, all Students said “Yes, … …
Sir.”, with smile; and also wished him.
Mr. Krishna said “Sir, … … Rowdy-Shreenu has taken each point of your
suggestion as an instruction, seriously.”; then, he revealed the Hospital story, by specifying the words: Learn like a Student; and evaluate like
a Master.
I said “Good. I have observed an improvement in his
handwriting in his exams.”.
Mr. Shreenu said “Thank you very
much Sir, for your advice.”.
Another Student said “Sir, … … as
you provide your suggestions individually and personally, all Students likes
you very much. In fact, after writing exams, everyone
waits excitedly, to know your suggestions.”.
Another Student said “Your
suggestions specify that, you are taking so much care about us.”.
I said “From starting onwards, this
College Students need not depend on any Tuitions. Just you need to follow your Lecturers’
suggestions. If your attendance is
perfect, you get the best Results.”.
Another Student said “Sir, … … I
read the book, Autobiography of MAHAATMA.
In that book, Mahaatma mentioned that people can learn anything from
him, other than his handwriting; as his handwriting was poor.
After reading that book, I can say
that … … there was no Master similar to you, in the life of Mahaatma. If anyone was there, Mahaatma's handwriting would
have been improved.”.
I said “I am doing my duty. In fact, your discipline and dedication make
the best Results for you. That’s all.”,
with a smile.
Later, all Students took their seats
in the Lab, and started their Lab-work.
